I know the WAV file is supposed to play and I assumed that the screen was supposed to split and show a large pic of the locations icon. Is that right? When a TourGuide is activated. There is a pop-up label that reads "TourGuide: Name of Tourguide". And my wav file plays what ever sound I have chosen. I read somewhere that you should get a split screen much like you do when you approach a highway interchange and it shows the configuration of the exit except that, instead of lanes, you'll see the icon for your location.
I guess that doesn't work on this model. Which is fine. I do get the little gray box with the alert. And, it turns out that the WAV file does play for me. What happened was, I had the Garmin on mute when I turned it on.
Well, the POI was so close to my start point that the WAV alert played even before I had a chance to adjust the volume and bring up the map. I adjusted the alert distance to less than a mile and made sure the volume was up and the WAV played as it should.
Thanks jgermann for explaining the TourGuide file preparation procedure. I have wondered about how to do this, but the other things I read were not this clear. Thanks for the help. The TourGuide will only give you a popup of the poi. It never has given a split screen on any units. Also you definitely need a wav file in order for TourGuide to work. Just be careful with what you use TourGuide on. Using it on a McDonalds will haveing it go off all the time. TourGuides work on the 40LM.
